Foodie Friday - A ComplEAT Tapas Service? Si, Senor!

Popular family-owned caterers now running ComplEAT Tapas at The Blue Ivy on North Hill - and offering a great deal for Colchester Life card holders!

Do you like the sound of authentic Spanish tapas tickling your tastebuds? Then, Colchester, you are in for a treat! Offering everything from the adventurous vieiras con morcilla (scallops served with a Spanish-style blood sausage) to the more familiar (but equally tasty) tortilla and paella, Karen Leach’s catering company, ComplEAT, now has a permanent home at the Blue Ivy Hotel on North Hill 4-6 North Hill, Colchester CO1 1DZ. And to celebrate Karen is offering a special deal for Colchester Life Card holders – buy three tapas,  get a fourth free!

Karen’s family have been in the food industry since the 1900s, starting in wholesale and progressing in to retail delicatessen and butchers in the 1950s. In the early 1990s the family uprooted to Spain and spent the best part of 20 years cooking, catering, and enjoying the sun and sangria, before heading back to the UK, armed with authentic Spanish know-how, in 2010.

Since then ComplEAT has gone from strength to strength, opening a popular street food stall in Colchester Market in 2015 and now taking on the challenge of running a tapas bar at the Blue Ivy hotel. ComplEAT pride themselves on using good produce from local people to make delicious food. Combined with excellent customer service and a family friendly environment, it’s a recipe for some memorable meals.

Food is central to this family’s own happy memories , and Karen tells us that while it was a tough decision to carry on with this new venture after the passing of husband, Tim, earlier this year, it was family - in particular their two children, Charlotte and Harry - which convinced her to keep going.

Karen says, “We love Colchester's diversity, its history, charm and character. Who wouldn't want to own a business here? It’s an amazing place. I hope people will embrace us, as we have the town, and we look forward to sharing our food with them.”

Mmmm, que rico!
