Charity/Arts - The Secret Art Sale

A chance to buy a totally original piece of art for just £40 – the artist will be a secret until it’s yours, so you could even land something by a big name! But more importantly (for your karma!), you'll be helping raise money to support the Colchester Hospital Cancer Centre campaign. It's defo a win-win!

At the first Secret Art Sale on Friday and Saturday, 2nd and 3rd of March at The Minories you can buy a totally original piece of art for just £40 – the artist will be a secret until it’s yours - so choose something you love!

Your piece could be by a famous artist, a celebrity or someone who’s going to be the next big name. Artists have donated a small painting, drawing, lino-cut, etching, textile, bas-relief, embroidery - whatever they chose. All the works are the same size and are signed only the reverse so will be displayed anonymously throughout the exhibition and sale.

Organiser of the Secret Art Sale, Kathy Norris, says: “Artworks are coming in from artists ranging from aspiring to professional, from amateur to celebrity, not only from local artists but from artists across the UK. We have many excellent and well-known artists in the area and many have submitted works, or promised us pieces already. The support so far has been fantastic but the more pieces we have the more we can raise for the Cancer Centre Campaign."

£3.25 million is needed to build the new Cancer Centre at Colchester Hospital, which will bring the chemotherapy and haematology environment up-to-date – a huge improvement on the current uncomfortable and overcrowded facilities. The new Cancer Centre will combine first-class radiotherapy, chemotherapy and medical treatments alongside a range of complementary therapies, information, support and advice for people affected by cancer.

The Secret Art Sale will be open from 10am-5pm on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd March in the Minories, High Street, Colchester. Admission is free. See you there!

P.S. The Secret Art Sale is still looking for a main sponsor, or lots of small sponsors, to cover the main expenses of the art paper, mounting and framing, etc. Can you or your business help? (The rewards are good!) Contact Kathy on
