Le Barre, who run fitness classes based on the principles of Pilates and ballet, have come up with an innovative idea to raise money for MIND, the mental health charity... because men, you can do ballet too(tu)!
Mental health is very much in the news these days, and while that makes it a little easier for us all to speak up about our struggles, often it's men who find it the most difficult to do so. The startling facts are that just over three out of four suicides are by men and suicide is the biggest cause of death for men under 35.
MIND is working to raise awareness of mental health issues in boys and men, and they believe the importance of a friendly chat cannot be underestimated. Danielle Hall, founder of Le Barre, is aware that many men find that difficult to initiate, so she thought, by pushing it a little further, and getting men to lose their inhibitions by flexing their calves and pointing their toes, it might make it easier to open up in other ways!
So tomorrow evening, from 7pm, men are invited to attend an hour long class at Le Barre, within the Dance Department of Colchester Institute, and alongside perfecting your plies, you may even get a pint!
It's £15 per person, and there is still time to sign up (or sign your man up!):
And if you know someone who's involved then support them by donating: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mentothebarre
So boys, hit the barre, not the bar tomorrow, in aid of MIND!
