There’s a buzz in the air, as Colchester’s Castle Park plays host to a beehive trail this summer!
There are 17 hives to spot, each decorated by a local pack of Cubs (2016 being their 100th anniversary) dotted around the Upper Park and Hollytree meadow. The hives have plaques on them bearing a nugget of information you must use to answer the questions about bees on the reverse of the trail.
The map and quiz is available here: Bee Trail Leaflet
Castle Park really is a glorious sight at the moment and the hives are nestled in some of the prettiest areas.
Bean and I used the trail as an opportunity to do some exercise, so we jogged between hives, and did squats when we’d got the information we needed off each one, but a more leisurely stroll is entirely possible! I would say block out 90 minutes or so to get it done, depending on the stamina of the littlest legs in your group, of course!
The Bee Trail is a lovely way to enjoy the park, even if you come regularly - it’s easy to take our local heritage for granted but Castle Park really is a gorgeous area, beautifully maintained and we Colchestrians are lucky to have it.
(Don’t forget, once you’ve completed the quiz hand the sheet into reception at the Castle, the Rangers’ Office or Visitors’ Centre to be entered into a prize draw!)
Until next time!
