Last weekend Colchester's Charter Hall played host to the Essex Vegan Festival. Over the last few years Colchester has become a bit of a hub for veganism, so it was only fitting that the very first Essex festival should be hosted here.
Colchester has become an awesome place to be a vegan! With a total of three plant based cafes in town - The Den, Nourish Co and Découverte, venues such as Cafe Sala selling (incredible) cakes, and even the Warehouse offering a vegan menu; a trip to Colchester should be on every vegans to do list. And last weekend it got even better. The Essex Vegan Festival was a huge celebration of all that is vegan...
For anyone who thinks giving up animal products means living on brown lentils and limp salad, this event proved how varied and delicious plant based food can be. From sausage rolls to pie and mash, cheesecake (my favourite) to bakewell tart, and cake - lots and lots of cake; visitors were very well fed!
The event was totally packed out. In fact it was quite difficult to get to some of the more popular stalls! Let's hope the festival comes back next year!
Colchester Life will soon be doing a week of blogs celebrating Colchester's awesome vegan businesses. If you have a business that you would like to be featured, or you would like to recommend your favourites to us, please email us firstname.lastname@example.org.
