Cutting-edge designer textiles and fashion, unique gifts, and a Christmas Market Extravaganza - this year The Minories has it all!
The Minories, run by the Colchester School of Art, is a place where imagination and creativity can flourish. It provides a venue which can help emerging and established artists and makers promote and sell their work. All of the items in their shop are by local creatives, many with associations with Colchester School of Art, both current and former lecturers and students.
The Minories responds to the creative needs and interests of our artists to provide a platform where they can showcase their work. They in return provide a wonderful selection of art and work available in The Minories Shop, all of which is beautifully hand crafted and thoughtfully designed. At Christmas the shop is truly festive and full to bursting with a unique and exciting selection of contemporary craft and art including Christmas decorations, ceramics, textiles, prints, jewellery and cards, all produced especially for the Minories. If you are looking for a really special and individual gift or something unique for yourself or your home they have something for everyone.
Twice yearly the Minories opens up the opportunity for artists to sell work through their well established annual Spring and Christmas art and design fairs where they are joined by other talented artists and makers selling a wide variety of goods across many disciplines. This Christmas there will be over 40 artists and maker stallholders creating a Christmas Extravaganza: That's this Saturday, 25th November, on the first floor of the Minories, in the Ballroom and the beautiful beamed Old Studios.
And on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th November fashion and textile designers Mary Ratcliffe and Claudette Joseph will be holding a Fashion Salon at the Minories. Claudette has worked for a number of years in the fashion industry as a designer for Arcadia and at Jasper Conran and Jean Muir and she has created a strong firmly rooted aesthetic of her own. Launching her label and selling at boutique shows and in specialist designer fairs has enabled the Claudette Joseph label to reach a worldwide clientele.
Mary comes with an equally impressive reputation and is a textile designer creating fashion prints. She works on art based projects, or design applications producing interior fabrics and homeware, ceramics and wallpaper. She is an avid collector of decorative china, and vintage textiles and fashion, which she combines with the love of flowers and natural forms to create unexpected juxtaposition of imagery.
