Running alongside the ever-wonderful Bazaar this Saturday is a spring market with a difference, selling only pre-loved items creatively recycled, upcycled or repurposed to be given a second life
Like many people in Colchester the Minories are really keen to reduce the impact they have on our environment through waste and consumption, so when it came to planning their annual spring fair they decided to do their bit to help.
Now in its third year Nothing New is a fair with a difference, selling only goods that have been recycled, upcycled or pre-loved. The Minories has invited makers, artists, crafters, vintage and bric-a-brac sellers to come up with inventive ways to repurpose old items and give them a second life or a new function.
This year they have added a twist and asked them to be creative with their pitches too and sell their work and goods from blanket stalls, bike basket or suitcase pitches for something between an art fair and a car boot sale - only much friendlier to the environment! These fun compact stalls will be crammed with goodies. Anything goes but everything created or sold must have been pre-loved and ready for a new loving home!
The aim of this unique event is to, in its own small way, have a positive impact on the environment by saving items that would have gone as waste to landfill. And if nothing else it prompts us all to think a little more before throwing that old item away.
This year the Nothing New market is being joined by the regular stall holders from The Bazaar making this an even bigger event. The Bazaar is a monthly market run by local designers, makers, artists and food producers from around Colchester. Originally set up as a consortium of peers, the traders took the opportunity to promote their work and created a dynamic grassroots event now held at the Minories. The stall holders include food producers who serve globally inspired, locally sourced, organic and vegan fare.
This is a lovely chance to shop and feast whilst interacting with local makers and take the opportunity to stock up cupboards with the very best that Colchester has to offer. The fair will thread through the beautiful walled garden and throughout the ballroom and upstairs areas which are not always open to the public.
Nothing New & The Bazaar is on this Saturday, 27th May 2017 at The Minories Galleries in the heart of Colchester. Admission is free.
