This is a great opportunity for a nice day out to take pictures and meet like-minded people. Instead of a formal lecture the guided walk is to be seen as a social event where you are budding up with fellow photographers and having the advantage of having a photography lecturer alongside to chat with about all sorts of photo related issues.
How will the day go?
The walking distance is approximately 4 miles. We have doubled up the time to cover this distance based on the avaerge time needed to walk this.
9.00 We meet at the Minories in Colchester to welcome the group and give you a short briefing, cover some photographic topics, logistics of guided walking in a large group and some health & safety advice.
9.30 We start our walk from Castle Park and follow the foot/cycle path along the river towards Wivenhoe. We will be walking the 4 miles with plenty of stops to take pictures and having some photo related discussions.
12.30 Planned arriving time in Wivenhoe where we can sit down for some food and drink, reflecting on the activity.
13.30 We end the walk and individually make our way back home. Train station and bus stop are in close proximity.
What do I need to bring with me ?
Photographic equipment, analogue or digital, both systems are welcome to be used. Make sure your batteries are charged and you have sufficient memory (film) to take photographs. Keep it light but have appropriate gear protection (bag).
Appropriate walking gear to cover a 4 mile distance. Comfortable shoes are important. Check the weather forecast to pack accordingly. Bring a bottle of water and some energy bars, just in case.
What will I be learning?
This is an informal learning event. past experience shows that you will learn more than expected. Being surrounded by people with a shared interest is a great environment to pick up knowledge and skills. Your guide will certainly talk to everyone in the group and has plenty to say about camera settings and image composition.
Who is guiding the photo walk?
The walk is guided by Mike Klencher, a photography lecturer across various programs at Colchester Institute and University Centre Colchester. Mike is a experienced tutor who alongside FE and HE teaching has delivered leisure learning classes to adult learners since 2004. Mike’s practice engages with alternative processes and printing, zine making and software experimentation. In Ipswich he organises the Ginnel Foto Fest, …the smallest photo festival.
How much does it cost?
We tried our best to keep this at a very affordable price of £ 25.00 per head. Maximum group size is 20 to ensure everyone gets a fair share of contact time with Mike.
The walk starts at 9 am at The Minories Galleries in Colchester and finishes approx. 13.30 in Wivenhoe. The fee does not include refreshments and food.
Participants please take in to consideration that we will be walking distance of 4 miles.
No photographic experience is required and all levels are welcome to join.
